CAFOD Salford was delighted to welcome Lorraine Branwell, who works for CAFOD partner “Catholic Relief Services” as Head of Office in Chaghcharan, Afghanistan. Lorraine has been involved with their emergency-response work in Ghor (western Afghanistan). Lorraine is from Salford and was home on leave, we were pleased to welcome her to share with us her experiences in Afghanistan. Lorraine gave us a warm picture of the people she is working with and showed how CRS are supporting people in their struggle to achieve an improved standard of living. Educational opportunities are seized with great enthuiasm as are the improved farming skills taught to local farmers. We saw from her slides the huge variation in climate which is a huge challenge to every-one.
Lorraine was kind enough to spend some of her “holiday” time with us and we were so pleased to hear “good news” stories from this troubled area of our world.
