The Prayer Group for the Deaf Community hear about CAFOD’s work in Ethiopia

Mary (Clark) from CAFOD Salford was pleased to be invited to the monthly prayer group held at St Patrick’s, Livesey Street, Collyhurst, Manchester on Friday 1st March. Maria Buckley led the prayer, which was a beautiful Lent reflection, and then Mary told the group about her 6 week trip to Ethiopia in the summer of 2011. She stayed with CAFOD partners, the Daughters of Charity, and spent the time teaching the children on the project each day. She spoke movingly about being invited into peoples’ homes and the great welcome she received from the community. The group asked Mary questions at the end and looked at the artefacts that she had brought back, including a photo of all the children she had taught. Mary thanked the group for their continued support of CAFOD and showed what good use their fundraising has gone to.

CAFOD is delighted that one of the group, Christopher, is going to run the Manchester 10k to raise awareness about CAFOD. This is the second time that CAFOD representatives have spoken at the prayer group and have been made extremely welcome on both occasions. We hope to keep this good relationship with the group and were pleased to have some members at the annual supporters day in the Cathedral Centre last November.
