Sacred Heart and St Joseph’s parishes invited Ged Edwards, CAFOD Salford’s Manager, on Tuesday 6th Mary to receive a cheque from them for £1,250 for our Hungry for Change Campaign.  Margaret Leatham who arranged the visit and Joe Hunt from the two parishes presented the cheques for the Lent Fast Day collections for this amazing total.  The parishes’ CAFOD groups have worked tirelessly together over recent months to support CAFOD’s Hungry for Change Campaign.

A substantial part of the money raised, some £400, had been raised by the CAFOD group in Sacred Heart through fast lunches in Lent with the group of Anne Atherton, Moira, Marion, Julie and Eileen with a canvass of the Hungry for Change Campaign image prepared by local artist Conrad.

Fred Uttley, who is leading the Tour de Fred cycle ride around 22 dioceses of England and Wales, was on hand to encourage the group is their great efforts.  The groups have undertaken to have Campaign cards signed by people in the parishes and to try and support Fred’s herculean task by collecting sponsorship for CAFOD (see here).

Margaret also arranged for Fred Uttley to come into St Edward’s RC Primary School to give a talk to the children about the Tour de Fred.  Gerard Keane, Headteacher, was very pleased to welcome Fred: “The children really listened as Fred talked about the need to help those who are hungry and Fred’s amazing bike ride in June for Hungry for Change.  Families are generous here at the School and we are pleased to support him.”

A great day all round and thanks to Margaret, Joe, Mr Keane and to Fr Peter Wilkinson for making this happen!
