Today pupils from St. Monica’s RC High School in Prestwich cycled in solidarity (on a static bike) with 68 year old Great Grandfather Fred Uttley, on his epic Le Tour de Fred ride of over 1,000 miles through the 22 Dioceses of England and Wales. The event was part of CAFOD’s work with the ‘Hungry for Change‘ Campaign, trying raise awareness about our world where 1 in 8 still go hungry. The sponsorship money will go to CAFOD’s work in Bangladesh:
Most of Bangladesh’s 144 million people live on less than $2 a day. They depend on agriculture to make a living and feed their families. But the low-lying geography of the country makes it extremely vulnerable to flooding and the effects of climate change.
Food insecurity now means the country has two million malnourished children and the highest rate of underweight children in South Asia. Frequent natural disasters such as floods and cyclones and continuous river erosion cause families to lose their homes and crops.
A good time was had by all and we even managed to avoid our own cyclone!
