Wednesday 5th February-Sunday 9th February

On Wednesday we travelled back to Freetown after saying a final farewell to the staff in Caritas Kenema. There are some beautiful beaches in Freetown so the next day we went to River Number 2 beach. The sand was pristine and the turquoise waves lapped gently against the shore and washed all our worries away as we swam. We ate some food in the open air with four dogs with fur the same colour as the sand keeping us company. Then we had a look in the huts behind the beach where the locals were selling goods and bought some souvenirs for people back home. The next day after evaluating our trip at the CAFOD Freetown office, we had a night out in Freetown. There was a live band with African drums, and we all had a great time dancing the night away.

When we left Freetown on the 9th February and caught the water taxi, we could see all the lights from the city winking at us as we left. We were all sad to have to say goodbye to Sierra Leone after such an incredible adventure. We have had an amazing month and got to know some extraordinary people. It has been an experience I will never forget and one that I will value for the rest of my life.
