Emerald shines out!

Team CAFOD were out in force on Sunday 18 May at the BUPA Great Manchester Run for our work overseas.
Family and friends were joined at the Great Manchester Run by CAFOD staff and volunteers to give noisy support at our cheering point and congratulate the runners once they’d completed the race.
“I was motivated to take part because I wanted to do something for those who are worse off in the world, we should help others if we can and that’s why I ran today. I’m glad I’ve done it, I’ll do it again next year!” Declan O’Loughlin.
Declan O’Loughlin, 37, completed the course in just 57 minutes. But he wasn’t the only member of the family to take part! His proud daughter Emerald, aged 3, was there to support him and ran all the way in her event, the 2 km mini race. Between them they hope to raise £200. Next year two of her brothers and sisters and Mum Siobhan are also planning to take part! If you want to join them, please sign up for the reminder service: http://greatrun.org/Events/Event.aspx?id=4
Catharine Oldfield ran as part of the great team from Aquinas Sixth Form College (here left to right are Catharine, Anna Snape and Katie Thompson) and will be tackling the Great North Run for CAFOD in September. “I love running for CAFOD because it’s such a good cause, together we’re really helping others in developing countries.” September will be a busy month for her as we’re also delighted that Catharine will be one of our new Step into the Gap volunteers starting then at Just Youth in Salford.
Ged Edwards, CAFOD Diocesan Manager: Salford Diocese, said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for the runners today and inspiring to see how people put themselves out to support CAFOD because they believe in what we’re all about. We were delighted that new runners like Gerry Keenan and Michael Beisty also took to the road for us along with a contingent from Loreto High School in Manchester and friends and supporters. Thanks so much to you all!”
