Celebrating Linda Swarbrick, one of our parish volunteers

linda-swarbrick

Linda is our parish volunteer at Brownedge, St Mary’s at Bamber Bridge and, as such, has a great team of people around her to assist in this role.  She is a lovely warm person who is instrumental in ensuring things happen in the parish from the 2 annual Fast Days to the monthly meetings after daily mass on the first Friday of the month. She encourages fundraising and has found ingenious ways to raise money for CAFOD from selling unwanted jewellery to organising a hugely successful music evening with her daughter’s choir. She leads the parish in the Connect2 programme and hosted our visitors from El Salvador, when they came over a couple of years ago. Her spirit is palpable as is her commitment to those in the Global South. She is always willing to share her ideas and works with local parishes in a mutually supportive way. She has enabled us to have our fast day briefings in her parish and has encouraged the parishioners to attend. She is a huge asset as one of our parish volunteers. She is pictured here standing next to her husband, Philip.

Romero chose to challenge those in power and stand up for social justice. He demanded respect for human rights. In 2017, Romero’s Centenary year, we continue to draw much inspiration from his example, particularly when considering and responding to the injustice and oppression taking place in our world today.
